Rebel Netters Down Memphis 6-1

OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 4 nationally-ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team, led by James Shortall, downed the University of Memphis 6-1 Friday to start the season 1-0. Memphis begins their season 0-1.
Ole Miss took a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. At No.2 doubles, Anders Stenman and Martin Selin dominated Jack Hu and Chris Buckley 8-0, at No. 1 doubles, Shortall and Martin Sjoqvist cruised to a 8-3 win over Alistair Todd and Richard Magney. Bo Petro and Ben Cousins defeated Daniel Demacek and Will Frazier 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Stenman got things going with a 6-3, 6-2 win over the Tigers' Magney at the No. 2 spot. Shortall improved his record to 22-5 overall by topping UM's Todd 6-3, 6-2 at the top spot. Sjoqvist finished off Hu 6-1, 6-3 to clinch the match for the Rebels.
At No. 4 singles, Selin downed Demacek 6-2, 6-1 and at No. 5 singles, Memphis native, Cousins dominated Buckley 6-0, 6-1. The only Memphis win of the day came at No. 6 singles, where Frazier defeated Petro 7-6(3), 6-3.
The Rebels will host 36th-ranked Tulsa Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Women's Sports Complex in the final day of the Ole Miss Indoor Classic. Fans are encouraged to come watch the Rebels following the men's basketball game versus Arkansas.
