Rebel Netters Defeat Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Ole Miss won the doubles point to open the match, with wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions. Vikrant Chadha and Anders Stenman defeated Andrew Nisker and Stuart Rhodes 8-6 and Martin Selin and Kristofer Stahlberg beat Brad Hambrick and Danny Tym 8-5. Selin and Stahlberg have won eight in a row at No. 3 doubles.

The teams split the singles, with Vanderbilt taking the top half and Ole Miss winning at No. 4-6. Stenman ended his three-match losing skid with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Rhodes at No. 4 singles.

As has been the story all season, the freshmen stepped up once again to win both their matches for the Rebel victory. At No. 5 singles, Selin defeated Peter Blach 6-1, 6-4 and at No. 6 singles, Stahlberg handed Tym a 6-1, 6-4 loss. The two are a combined 26-3 overall at the bottom two positions and 16-3 in the SEC. Selin has won five in a row and nine of his last 10, while Stahlberg has won seven in a row.

The Rebels go 2-0 on this road trip after defeating Kentucky 5-2 on Thursday. Ole Miss is 12-2 this year, when they capture the doubles point. The Rebels conclude their SEC road schedule at 5-1.

"It was very important to win the doubles point," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "Vanderbilt has a solid singles lineup. We took care of business this weekend, and now we get ready to face another tough test in Mississippi State. The Bulldogs have had some injuries this year, but they are tough. We look forward to a huge crowd coming out and supporting us as we continue our march toward another SEC Championship."

Ole Miss returns home for its final two SEC regular season matches beginning with arch-rival Mississippi State Thursday at 2:00 p.m., at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
