Corey Goguts Named Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year
6/8/2026 | Softball
OXFORD, Miss. – Incoming Ole Miss softball freshman Corey Goguts has been named the Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year, as part of the annual unveiling of each state's winners.
Goguts delivered a dominant campaign to lead Hewitt-Trussville High School, hitting a sizzling .618 with 29 home runs, 91 RBI, 109 runs scored, 32 stolen bases and an on-base percentage of .712. Her efforts powered the Huskies to a 7A state title.
Ranked as the No. 82 prospect in the nation according to Softball America, Goguts is one 11 highly touted future Rebels who are set to join the program this fall. Head coach Jamie Trachsel signed the No. 7 class in the nation, according to Softball America/On3 and the No. 11 class according to D1Softball.
Goguts is not the only member of the incoming freshman class to earn a Gatorade Player of the Year honor, as fellow incoming freshman Jada Savage earned Georgia's award in 2025 prior to signing with the Rebels.
The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states across 12 different high school sports – football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, baseball, softball, and boys and girls track & field – and awards one National Player of the Year in each sport. The selection process is administered by the Gatorade Player of the Year Selection Committee, which leverages experts including coaches, scouts, media and others as sources to help evaluate and determine the state winners in each sport.
