Madi George Named a Top-10 Finalist for NFCA Freshman of the Year

OXFORD, Miss. โ Ole Miss softball freshman Madi George has been named a top-10 finalist for the NFCA National Freshman of the Year award, as the NFCA announced on Thursday.

George becomes just the second Rebel to ever be named a top-10 finalist, joining Hailey Lunderman in 2016. George was named a top-25 finalist for the award back on April 23.

George's monster freshman season has continued entering postseason play. The Leander, Texas native is hitting .392 with 21 home runs, 58 RBI and nine doubles, while slugging .837 and drawing 27 walks. George leads her team in home runs, RBI, doubles, slugging, on-base percentage, walks and OPS.

So far, George leads the SEC Tournament field with four hits, hitting .571 with two critical RBI in the win over No. 5 Tennessee on Wednesday.

The freshman has set the single-season records for home runs, RBI and total bases at Ole Miss, with eyes on the slugging record. Her efforts have caught national attention, as George has taken home National Freshman of the Week honors from D1Softball, Softball America and Softball on SI, while also winning SEC Freshman of the Week honors.

On May 20, the three finalists for the NFCA Freshman of the Year will be released with the winner being revealed on May 26.

George and the Rebels will look to continue its SEC Tournament run on Thursday, facing off against No. 6 ranked and fourth-seeded Texas at 4 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
