Track & Field’s Burnett, Compere Advance on Day Two of NCAA East Regional

5/28/2026 | Track and Field

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Ole Miss women's track & field earned two quarterfinals berths in the short sprints, including a dazzling new career-best from freshman Patchnalie Compere, to lead the Rebels at the second day of the 2026 NCAA East Region First Round on Thursday.

Senior Alicia Burnett took care of business with a smooth win in Heat Two of the women's 100-meter dash first round on Thursday evening, crossing the line at 11.24 (+0.2) for an auto-bid to Saturday's quarterfinal. Compere, meanwhile, finished three hundredths of a second shy at 11.38 (+0.6).

But less than two hours later in the 200-meter first round, Compere blazed to a two-tenth PR of 22.73 (+0.6) – breaking her own Haitian national record and Ole Miss wind-legal freshman record, while also improving upon her spot at No. 3 in school history outdoors. Compere earned an AQ spot to Saturday's quarterfinal as the second-place finisher in the second heat, and will look to become the first Ole Miss freshman to qualify in the event since Jayda Eckford in 2019.

Earlier in the day, Ole Miss nearly had a national ticket in the hammer, but junior Skylar Soli fell heartbreakingly short of earning a return trip to Eugene. Soli launched a season-best 62.02m/203-6 in the second flight, and was still within contention through all of the third flight and nearly all of the fourth. However, Soli was sitting on the bubble in the 12th and final qualifying spot when Auburn's Norah Lind squeaked past her by two centimeters on the second to last throw of the competition – 62.04 meters to Soli's 62.02.

Also competing on Thursday were: seniors Loral Winn (22nd, 4:16.01) and Sophie Baumann (48th, 4:36.56) in the 1500-meter first round; sophomores Mary Cate Doughty (19th, 4.22m/13-10) and Lily Beattie (T-26th, 4.07m/13-04.25) in the pole vault; senior Lizzie Hatton in the long jump (46th, 5.66m/18-7); freshman Temidayo Owoyemi in the shot put (35th, 15.31m/50-02.75); and senior Nyah Edwards in the hammer (33rd, 57.41m/188-4);

The Ole Miss men return to the spotlight for Day Three, with tickets to Oregon on the line in 10 different events on Friday – beginning with Ashton Hearn in the discus at noon CT.
