Gordon Whitwell Named to SEC Community Service Team

OXFORD, Miss. – For the second consecutive year, Ole Miss men's tennis' Gordon Whitwell was recognized for his dedication to serving the Oxford community, for he has been named to the SEC Community Service Team, the Southeastern Conference announced on Thursday.
The SEC Community Service Team serves as an annual effort by the Southeastern Conference to highlight the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition. A total of 13 individuals were named to the SEC Community Service Team this season, representing the men's tennis program within the conference.
Whitwell has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to serving others through meaningful community initiatives such as Feed the Sip, which is a food sustainability project within the Stronger Together Mississippi Initiative.
He has also helped distribute non-perishable food items to support elementary students in Tunica and Quitman counties. The senior is also involved in Reading with the Rebels, which is a local initiative that helps increase and support reading literacy throughout the state of Mississippi.
Additionally, Whitwell has participated in Adopt a Basket and the elementary morning carpool while being a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). The Oxford, Mississippi, native is continuously finding ways to give back and is dedicated to making an impact within the community around him.
Whitwell and the rest of the Rebel squad will round out the regular season this weekend as they will face off against No. 19 Auburn on Friday, April 10, at 3 p.m. CT. before then capping off the regular season on Sunday, April 12, at 12 p.m. CT against No. 22 Kentucky. Both matches will take place at the Palmer/Salloum Outdoor Tennis Center.
His involvement and leadership make him a deserving recipient of this community service award.
