No. 17 Women’s Golf Splits Pair of Matches Sunday at Old Barnwell

AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 17 Ole Miss women's golf team split its pair of matches Sunday at the Old Barnwell Derby Match Play in Aiken, South Carolina.
The Rebels fell 2-3 to No. 16 Mississippi State in the quarterfinals, but bounced back with a 3-2 win over Alabama later in the afternoon in the consolation round.
Kajsalotta Svarvar and Mary Miller were dominant Sunday each winning both of their matches for the Rebels.
Svarvar took down Ines Belchior of Mississippi State 6&4 in morning singles and followed with a 6&5 win over Alabama's Natachanok Tunwannarux. In total, Svarvar rattled home 10 birdies and needed just 27 holes to secure both matches.
Mary Miller defeated Sam Whateley 1UP in her first match and topped Grace Crawford 5&4 in afternoon singles. The Savannah, Georgia native also made 10 birdies including a stretch of five over nine holes during her second match.
Larissa Carrillo entered the lineup for the afternoon round and secured the winning point for Ole Miss over Alabama, defeating Harriet Lockley 3&2. Carrillo battled throughout as the match went back-and-forth until she was able to gain control with four holes to play. The Saltillo, Mexico native calmy carded two pars as Lockley went bogey-bogey, ultimately ending the match.
Ole Miss will continue final round action on Tuesday against No. 22 South Carolina.
