Men’s Tennis Advances Six to Round of 16 at ITA Regionals

AUBURN, Ala. – Ole Miss men's tennis won seven of its eight singles matches in the Round of 64 at the ITA Regional Championships on Friday, with seven Rebels advancing to the Round of 32 in Auburn, Alabama.

Kai Milburn, Igor Kudriashov, Pietro Pampanin, Vlado Jankanj, Moritz Kudernatsch, Mason Landreth and Niccolo Baroni each earned victories to lead the Rebels through the opening round.

Milburn opened play with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Troy's Ausias Martin Melo, while Kudriashov defeated North Alabama's Samuel Dominguez, 6-1, 6-2.

Pampanin followed with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Troy's Luciano Alcocer, and Jankanj earned a 7-5, 6-1 win against Tulane's Hady El Kordy. Kudernatsch added another victory for Ole Miss, defeating Troy's Gabriel Garay, 7-5, 6-1. Landreth capped his match with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win over Alabama State's Flor De Sitter, while Baroni delivered a commanding 6-0, 6-0 sweep against Southern Miss' Ritabrata Sarkar.

Stefan Vedovelli was forced to retire in his match against South Alabama's Harold Van Raemdonck after splitting the first two sets. Van Raemdonck led 3-0 in the deciding set when Vedovelli retired.Milburn carried his momentum into the Round of 32 on Saturday, defeating Auburn's Tyler Bowers in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to advance to the Round of 16.

Kudriashov also secured his place in the next round with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) victory over Tulane's Asaf Friedler. Kudernatsch joined his teammates in the Round of 16, defeating Mississippi State's Luigi Valletta, 6-3, 6-4. Landreth also advanced after receiving a walkover in his second match.Jankanj rallied after dropping the opening set to defeat Alabama's Braden Haning, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Baroni also advanced, earning a straight-set 6-2, 6-3 victory over Jacksonville State's David Krasner.

Pampanin's run ended in the Round of 32, as South Alabama's Jules Caby earned a 6-0, 7-6 (7-2) victory.Ole Miss finished the day with a 13-2 record in singles competition, including Landreth's walkover victory. Six Rebels advanced to the Round of 16, giving the Rebels the largest contingent of remaining singles players among the participating teams at the regional championships.

The Rebels continue competition at the ITA Regional Championships in Auburn, Alabama.
