Emily Welker, Riley Crowder Win Gray Draw Championship at Blue Gray Classic

MONGOMERY, Ala. – Closing out the first event of the fall season, Ole Miss women's tennis' Emily Welker and Riley Crowder secure the gray draw championship at the Blue Gray Classic on Sunday.
The Rebels wrapped up their final day of the tournament with a championship on the line for Welker and Crowder. They began their day with a close doubles match against Taly Licht and Olivia Carneiro of Georgia Tech, falling 6-8.
Needing to win both of their next singles matches, No. 67 Welker faced off against Licht, winning a hard-fought match, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. With the gray draw championship on the line, Crowder matched up against Carneiro, taking the match, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Following their victory, the Welker-Crowder pair faced off against Maria de la Paz Alberto and Stanislav Shulzhenko of Iowa State for the overall tournament title. The match consisted of a quick 10-point doubles tiebreak to claim the overall title, where the Rebels fell, 2-10.
In the Blue Draw, Andrea Nova and Ichino Horikawa faced off against Ava Esposito and Alice Battesti of Auburn, falling 3-8 in doubles. In Singles, Nova fell to Esposito 0-6, 4-6 and Horikawa dropped to Battesti, 2-6, 5-7. The Rebel duo finished in fourth place in the blue draw on the weekend.
The Rebels will continue their fall campaign later this month at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic in Milwaukee, Wis., set to run from Sept. 25-28.
