BATON ROUGE, La. – Ole Miss track & field closed out the regular season with a handful of impressive performances at the LSU Invite on Saturday, the final tuneup for the Rebels before the SEC Championships in two weeks.
The Ole Miss men's pole vault squad had two Rebel men in the top three of a highly-competitive field filled with SEC competitors.
Sophomore transfer John Kendricks won with an overall career-best of 5.42m/17-09.25 on his first attempt, which moves him to third in school history as well as 19th in the NCAA and fifth in the conference this season. The lone Rebels to ever go higher in the men's pole vault are 1984 SEC champion Baker Vinci (5.43m/17-10) and John's older brother, three-time Olympian Sam Kendricks (5.81m/19-00.75).
Junior Logan Kelley followed tied for third place after clearing 5.18m/17-0.
Meanwhile, in the women's pole vault freshman Lily Beattie also had a career day, setting an outdoor PR of 4.11m/13-05.75, which also ties her indoor best from the SEC Championships back in March. This marks Beattie's third consecutive improvement, and her height today improves upon her spot at sixth in Ole Miss history outdoors.
Sophomore Aly Francolini also set an outdoor PR at 3.81m/12-6, placing her 15th in school history.
In the women's shot put, All-American sophomore Akaoma Odeluga took the crown with a heave of 18.36m/60-3, her third event win in the shot put this outdoor season.
