Women’s Tennis Advances to Second Round at SEC Championship
4/16/2025 | Women's Tennis
Auburn, Ala. – Ole Miss women's tennis defeated Missouri in the first round of the SEC Championship, 4-1. This will mark the first time since the 2023 season the Rebels will make an appearance in the second round.
In doubles, the newcomer duo did not waste a moment and walked away with their third win in a row on court three. Alice Soulie and Emily Welker defeated the Tigers Lailaa Bashir and Mary Brumfield, 6-1.
The push did not stop there, with both the first and second courts in a Rebel domination. Brooklyn Olson and Andrea Nova secured the doubles point, with a 6-3 final. No. 23 Anaelle Leclercq-Ficher and Ludmila Kareisova were left unfinished at 5-3 on court one.
The Rebels continued to fight with fire through singles. Senior Kareisova put on a show, and extended the Rebels lead after a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court two.
In a drought, three Rebels fought back for a forced third set to keep the momentum going: Lucie Petruzelova on court three, Soulie on four, and Nova on court six.
Rachel Krzyzak fought back from a deficit to a 6-6 first set and would be determined by a tiebreak to the set winner. Senior Krzyzak pulled away to secure a comfortable lead and took set one 7-6 (7-3). In no time, the sixth slot representative soared through to give the Rebels a 3-0 lead. Krzyzak defeated Gian Octa, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1.
Andrea Nova kept a close fight against Zoe Lazar, and continued a remarkable feat against the Tiger. Sophomore superstar clinched the match for the Rebels, with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory to send them into the next round.
Up next, Ole Miss will continue their dance in round two against No. 7 Tennessee at 12 p.m. CT on Thursday, April 17.
