Men’s Tennis’ Matthieu Chambonniere Named SEC Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- After mounting an electric comeback singles victory against LSU last week, Ole Miss men's tennis' Matthieu Chambonniere has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
This accolade marks Chambonniere’s first SEC honor in his young collegiate career as a Rebel.
The Paris, France, native is the second freshman Rebel to win SEC Freshman of the week honors in the 2025 spring season, as Loan Lestir won the award on Jan. 22. Additionally, it marks the 16th instance in program history that a Rebel has secured the first-year recognition.
Chambonniere clinched the match over LSU on Saturday to secure the Rebels’ first SEC win of the season.
The Rebels and Tigers were tied 3-3, as it all came down to the final match of the day on court five where Chambonniere was competing against LSU’s Brock Anderson. After dropping the first set, Chambonniere showed his clutch factor and mounted the comeback over LSU’s student-athlete in a three set 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 match to clinch the win for Ole Miss.

Chambonniere went on to the afternoon matchup against No. 74 North Alabama, where he paired with Benjamin Martin on the doubles court to contribute to the Rebels securing the doubles point over the Lions.
The freshman then competed against North Alabama’s Birtan Duran in singles and tallied a dominant straight set 6-2, 6-3 victory over Duran to add another point to the board for the Rebels.
Chambonniere leads the way for Ole Miss in singles and doubles wins this season, boasting 16 on the singles court, and 13 on the doubles courts.
Chambonniere and the rest of the Ole Miss squad will be back in action on Thursday, March 6, where they will host No. 21 Alabama at the Palmer/Salloum Outdoor Tennis Center at 3:00 p.m. CT.
