Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 21 Oklahoma in Narrow Decision

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's tennis team (11-9, 2-8 SEC) hosted No. 21 Oklahoma (12-6, 5-4 SEC) at the Palmer/Salloum Outdoor Tennis Center on Thursday for an afternoon showdown where the Rebels fell to the Sooners in a close 4-3 matchup.
After narrowly dropping the doubles point, Ole Miss went to work on the singles courts. Five out of the six singles courts secured first set wins, but the Rebels ultimately fell short.
Matthieu Chambonniere stayed patient on court four and secured a hard-fought 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win over Oklahoma's Jordan Hasson. This victory marks the Paris, France, native's 21st victory of his freshman campaign and a Rebel best.
Rebel veteran Noah Schlagenhauf dominated on court one, capturing a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win over Oklahoma's Oscar Lacides to tally the Rebel's second point of the day. Schlagenhauf was the lone Rebel to secure a singles win in straight sets.
Kai Milburn continued Ole Miss' momentum on court five. The freshman stayed persistent and earned a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 win over OU's student-athlete. This victory etched the freshman's sixth of the season.
It all came down to court four where Isac Strömberg was squaring off against Luis Alvarez in an electric three set match. Strömberg fought hard, but ultimately fell 7-5 (5-7), 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) to conclude the match.
Ole Miss will hit the road to the Peach State for a Saturday showdown against Georgia. The Rebels will square off against the Dogs on Saturday, March 30 at 12:00 p.m. CT at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens.
