Audrey Gogniat v. PRCs Smallbore

Audrey Gogniat Crowned Individual Smallbore Champion, Rifle Claims Second in Smallbore at PRCs

2/8/2025 | Rifle

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Audrey Gogniat led No. 6 Ole Miss rifle to a second-place finish in the smallbore event while she took home the top individual placement at the Patriot Rifle Conference Tournament, held at the X Count on Saturday.

Gogniat was crowned the PRC individual smallbore champion after tabbing a monumental 597 tally. She became the first individual event winner for Ole Miss in its history with the PRC, and only the second individual athlete to claim the top spot in an event regardless of conference. Abby Buesseler earned the smallbore title in 2022 when Ole Miss was a member of the GARC.

Gogniat's 597 reset the Ole Miss program record, and it marks her second performance of at least 595 this spring alone after firing a 595 in a three-team tournament in January. Her score today is also tied for the highest total by an NCAA rifle shooter this season and serves as the second-highest mark in collegiate rifle history.

She clinched the title in the elimination bracket of the tournament. The top eight competitors, four of whom hailed from Ole Miss, fought for a spot to call themselves individual champions. Gogniat scored a 464.5 over Alaska Fairbanks' Cecelia Ossi's 464.2 to earn her title on the 45th shot of the sudden elimination round.

Four Rebels – Gogniat, Lea Horvath, Gracie Dinh and Jordan de Jesus – were named All-Conference PRC members for their top-eight finishes. Horvath scored 591 in the third relay, while Dinh and de Jesus each scored 588 to earn their spots.

As a team, the Rebels fired a 2364 score in the event to set the program record. Since the insertion of Gogniat into the starting lineup, the Rebels have averaged 2354.0 points in four appearances, which would amount to the 10th-highest score in smallbore history for the Rebels. Ole Miss has now set and reset the school smallbore record two times in the spring with this latest performance.

Ole Miss and Alaska Fairbanks are currently neck-in-neck in the competition, with the Rebels just three points behind the Nanooks score. The air rifle competition is slated to begin Sunday, Feb. 9, at 7 a.m. CT, where an event and aggregate team will be named champion.

De Jesus and M'Leah Lambdin began the day with some urgency for the Rebels. The duo each fired 580 or better, with de Jesus claiming the third-best score in the first relay. She scored 588, highlighted by 36 center shots. Making the championship round of the PRC for the first time, the freshman earned All-PRC honors for her eighth-place finish.

In the second relay, Gogniat foreshadowed her historic outing by firing a 199 in the kneeling position, tying a school record in the process. That mark has been matched four times this season alone, as Gogniat joined Gracie Dinh, de Jesus and Lambdin. Her momentum rolled into the prone position where she fired her second perfect score of the season.

Sitting at 399 entering the final 20 shots, Gogniat dug deep to reach her final tally. She did so by missing only two bullseyes for a 198 score to solidify her final mark of 597. Three points separated her from the second-place finisher of the team event.

Gogniat and fellow freshman Dinh shined in the loaded second relay. The duo claimed the top two spots, after Dinh finished with a 588. The field consisted of Emma Rhode of Nebraska, who leads the nation among year-long athletes in smallbore, and a pair of consistently high scorers for Alaska Fairbanks in Lucie Kissenberger and Teagan Perkowski.

Dinh's 588 score placed her in the championship round, where she finished sixth.

Horvath sealed the deal for Ole Miss' team record and second-place tournament finish with her 591 finish. She fired her second perfect prone score of the year, while placing fourth overall in the event to earn her first All-PRC recognition.

The Rebels will look to continue its momentum into tomorrow's air rifle tournament, where a PRC team champion will be crowned. Ole Miss and its competition will toe the line at 7 a.m. CT.
