Cross Country’s Kidus Misgina Leads Rebels at 2025 SEC Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Ole Miss men's cross country redshirt junior Kidus Misgina led the way for the Rebels with an All-SEC finish at the 2025 SEC Cross Country Championships, held this morning at Tennessee's Cherokee Farms Cross Country Course.
 
Misgina earned first-team All-SEC honors after finishing sixth in his first SEC championship 8K to start the morning for Ole Miss, clocking in at 23:24.30 after running much of the race with the lead pack. The front of that pack – led by eventual champion Kelvin Cheruiyot – eventually broke off, but Misgina stuck with the next group across the line. No. 8 Alabama came away with the team title at 64 points, followed by No. 20 Georgia (123) and No. 29 Oklahoma (126).
 
Other Rebel men running on Friday were: Toby Gillen (35th, 24:16.18), Marco Perez (40th, 24:22.33), Evan Thornton-Sherman (53rd, 24:35.31), Zack Gilbertson (58th, 24:40.73), John Shoemaker (62nd, 24:45.83), Gabe Scales (67th, 24:55.78), Ky Hehir (78th, 25:17.67), Lukas Ehrle (80th, 25:20.08) and Owen Kelley (87th, 25:35.36).
 
In the women's championship 6K to follow, senior Sophie Baumann was the top Rebel across the line, finishing 41st overall at 21:05.51. Fellow senior Beth Arentz joined her in the top-50 at 21:12.28, while freshman Leah Penick continued her impressive debut season as the third-best Rebel finisher in 53rd place at 21:18.15.
 
Other Rebel women in competition were: Ella Johnson (76th, 21:56.32), Adie Luna (82nd, 22:01.04), Addy Mitchell (84th, 22:03.32), Natalie Duggan (89th, 22:08.44), Madison Archdale (103rd, 22:26.60), Brooke Preputnick (119th, 22:49.57) and Hannah Doyle (122nd, 22:51.74).
 
Up next for both Ole Miss men's and women's cross country will be the 2025 NCAA South Regional, hosted by North Alabama at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Alabama on Fri., Nov. 14.
