Gabi Placide Added to AVCA Player of the Year Watch List

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss volleyball's Gabi Placide has been added to the exclusive AVCA Player of the Year Award Watch List, as the AVCA announced on Thursday.
Placide is one nine to be added to the initial list of 30 athletes around the country who were tabbed to the list in the preseason. The list currently features only 12 SEC athletes, including Placide, who is one of four non-seniors in the group.
The Centennial, Colo., native has shined in her first season in Oxford and quickly ascended the national rankings as one of the top hitters in the country. Placide leads the SEC in total points (265.5) and kills (231), while ranking ninth and 11th nationally, respectively. Her 5.21 points per set and 4.53 kills per set also rank among the nation's best in 15th and 18th, respectively.
Named the SEC Co-Player of the Week just over one week ago, Placide has been a model of consistency for the Rebels, leading the team in kills in all but three matches and tallying double-digit kills in all but one match. Placide has tallied five, 20-kill performances this season, including a new career-high of 27 in a win over UAlbany and 21 kills in the program's first SEC win of the season at Oklahoma on Sunday.
Placide continues to close in on 1,000 kills in her standout collegiate career, needing just 30 to reach the threshold. Her performance has buoyed the Rebels, who sit 9-4 and 1-1 in SEC play so far this season.
Placide and the Rebels are back in action on Friday, Oct. 3 as they welcome No. 3 Kentucky to the Gillom Athletics Performance Center. The match is set for 6 p.m. CT and will be televised on the SEC Network.
