Rifle Class Preview: Sophomores
10/1/2025 | Rifle
OXFORD, Miss. – With less than one week before the upcoming 2025-26 rifle season, OleMissSports.com will highlight each member of the squad ahead of the season opener at UTEP on Saturday, Oct. 4, in El Paso, beginning with the second-year squad members of the team, the sophomores.
Aptly nicknamed the "Sophomore Six," all members of the 2023 signing class are returning to Oxford for their second season of competition for the Rebels. Arguably the most talented class of athletes in all collegiate rifle, this group boasts some of the top competitors entering the 2025-26 campaign.
Audrey Gogniat, Gracie Dinh and Jordan de Jesus headline the group as the three most experienced competitors from last season, with Susan Carter, Claudia Muzik and Kayla Riewe providing invaluable depth to the lineup. All six were counters last season in at least one event, with Dinh being the only Rebel during the 2024-25 season to serve as counter in both smallbore and air rifle in all 13 appearances.
Following a historic freshman campaign where she only appeared in seven matches, Gogniat is back and looking for improvement. The reigning national air rifle and PRC aggregate champion has made a splash in the collegiate rifle world and has personally rewritten Ole Miss' record books.
Now the owner of the top three smallbore scores in program history, the top aggregate score the NCAA has seen since 2015 and a pair of perfect 600s in air rifle, there's not much to say about Gogniat that hasn't already been said. With her back in the rotation, Gogniat is looking to lead Ole Miss to a team title while continuing to excel as an individual.
Dinh alternated with all-time Rebel Lea Horvath last season in their roles but firmly established herself as the No. 2 shooter behind Gogniat in the postseason. Dinh earned CRCA First Team All-American status in smallbore and was an honorable mention in aggregate scoring, becoming Ole Miss' first freshman All-American since Horvath in 2020-21. In doing so, she became Ole Miss' 13th All-American and extended the program's streak of producing at least one All-American to six years.
Among season-long competitors, Dinh led all Rebels in aggregate and smallbore scoring, the latter of which was good for 12th-best in the nation. She excelled in air rifle as well, firing a 597 on three occasions, leading the team on two occasions. At the NCAA Tournament, she fired that score and finished just outside the top eight to compete for a medal. She'll look to advance further during her sophomore campaign.
The anchor of last season, de Jesus averaged the fourth-highest smallbore, air rifle and aggregate score all year. Among season-long competitors, her 1176.2 aggregate score was the third highest. She got better as the season went on, upping her aggregate average by two whole points from the fall to the spring slates.
De Jesus developed into one of the most consistent high-scoring shooters on the team in air rifle, earning at least a 590 in 10 consecutive appearances. She shot a career- and season-high 596 twice. She excelled in smallbore as well, punching a ticket to the medal round of the event at the Patriot Rifle Conference Tournament, where she finished eighth.
Carter joined the Rebels by way of Baxley, Georgia, and put forth a solid freshman campaign. She appeared in 10 matches while earning a counter spot in three. She shined when the Rebels traveled to the last frontier of Alaska, firing a career-high 1176 aggregate in the four-team tournament between Alaska-Fairbanks, Akron and Army. She finished top four in both aggregate and smallbore scoring, finishing with another career-best 589 in the first event.
Muzik made eight appearances for the Rebels last season. She earned two starting nods in air rifle and one in smallbore. An air rifle specialist, she opened her collegiate career with a bang, firing an impressive 590 in air rifle against Akron in her first collegiate match. She continued to develop into the spring semester when she topped that performance with a 595 in the event against TCU and Murray State. The Green Spring, Ohio, native ended the season the way she started, firing an 1166 aggregate against Memphis in the NCAA Qualifier for a career best.
Riewe rounds out the strong class as a competitor who gradually improved throughout her entire freshman season. The Lubbock, Texas, native appeared in seven matches for the Rebels and countered in air rifle against Kentucky. A consistent competitor in air rifle, she shot fewer than 586 in the event only once in her seven appearances. She had a career day against TCU and Murray State in February, setting career bests in smallbore (572) and air rifle (594) for a personal aggregate record of 1166.
Ole Miss' sophomores will look to take the next step during head coach Will Shaner's first season at the helm. Ole Miss is set to commence the new season at UTEP on Oct. 4, with the match set for 9 a.m. CT.
Rebel fans will get their first chance to catch the sophomores and the entire rifle squad at the home opener against Murray State on Oct. 25.
