Engelhardt, Womack Named Ole Miss Nominees for SEC H. Boyd McWhorter Scholarship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Rebel seniors Lukas Engelhardt of Ole Miss men's tennis and Olivia Womack of Ole Miss women's track & field have been nominated for the SEC H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Postgraduate Scholarship by the University of Mississippi, the SEC announced Thursday.
The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Postgraduate Scholarship has been presented by the Southeastern Conference since 1986 to the league's top male and female scholar-athletes.
The SEC provides the league's male and female McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the Year Post-Graduate Scholarship recipients with a $20,000 post-graduate scholarship. The 26 remaining male and female finalists for the award will also receive a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship.
The award recipients are chosen by a committee of Faculty Athletics Representatives from the 14 SEC institutions, and will be honored by the league membership at SEC Spring Meetings in Destin, Fla.
Engelhardt, who just recently was named the 2024 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's tennis, has cemented himself as an influential figure both on and off the court. Academically, the Augsburg, Germany, native has garnered a 4.0 cumulative GPA across his undergraduate and graduate schooling and plans to graduate later this May with his master's in business administration. Engelhardt was most recently named a finalist for the NCAA Walter Byers Graduate Scholarship, the highest graduate honor the NCAA awards. Engelhardt also was a 2023 winner of the Taylor Medal, which is the highest academic honor conferred by the University of Mississippi and is only awarded to less than one percent of the Ole Miss student body on an annual basis.
Engelhardt has also won the School of Business Outstanding Undergraduate in Management Student Award, the 2023 NCAA Spring Sports Postgraduate Scholarship, the 1A FAR Academic Excellence Award and has been named to both the 2023 CSC Academic All-American Third Team and the CSC Academic All-District Team. In his Ole Miss career, Engelhardt is a three-time SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll member, a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete, a nine-time Chancellor's Honor Roll selection and he has led the Ole Miss men's tennis team to four straight Chancellor's Cup wins for best team GPA.
Athletically, in doubles this year, Engelhardt boasts a record of 21-14 and has defeated three nationally ranked duos. This season he has ranked as high as No. 8 in the ITA doubles rankings with partner Nikola Slavic. Engelhardt also participated in the ITA National Fall Championships in doubles after being a finalist in the ITA Southern Region Championships. In singles, he has secured eight wins, six being in dual matches. His highest ranking in his career came in 2022 when he was ranked as the second-best doubles pair in the nation. He has helped Ole Miss earn bids to the NCAA Tournament three consecutive years and was a part of the 2021 team who made it to the Sweet Sixteen.
Additionally, he has won the Georgia Tech Invite once in singles and twice in doubles between 2021-22. He also won the 2021 Red Doubles Draw at the Bulldog Invite and the Doubles Title at the 2019 CCB Collegiate Invitational. He has pushed for team success throughout his career as he also helped the Rebels win the 2020 Blue Gray Invitational. In his overall career at Ole Miss, he has won 59 singles matches and 68 doubles matches which ranks in the top 15 for most in program history.
Womack – a senior native of Clinton, Mississippi – currently owns a 3.93 cumulative GPA in the Ole Miss law studies program. Womack was recently named the national 2024 Arthur Ashe Jr. Women's Sports Scholar of the Year, which is handed out annually by Diverse: Issues in High Education magazine to outstanding minority men and women who have distinguished themselves in their academic and athletic pursuits while also being highly active members of their campuses and local communities.
In addition to being a three-time Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar, Womack is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic selection, a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member and has made the Chancellor's Honor Roll seven times.
Off the track, Womack has volunteered in literacy programs, food drives, water bottle collection, and preparation of holiday gift baskets to help those in need during the holiday season. She participated in the Tim Tebow Foundation prom night event to support those with disabilities, and supported the university's Black Faculty and Staff Organization members in collection of new books and stuffed bears to donate to the families of Ole Miss Facility employees.
On the track, Womack is a three-time All-American, two-time NCAA East Region qualifier, and two-time SEC Scorer for the Ole Miss track & field team, and she has run on four of the nine fastest 4x100-meter relay times ever at Ole Miss. She was the 2022 Rebels Choice Award Rookie of the Year, and she also ranks top-15 all-time at Ole Miss in the 200-meters outdoors (10th, 23.46) and indoors (12th, 23.91).
