Cross Country Concludes 2024 Season at NCAA Championships
11/23/2024 | Cross Country
MADISON, Wis. – Ole Miss cross country wrapped up a successful 2024 campaign at the NCAA Cross Country Championships at Wisconsin's Thomas Zimmerman Championship Cross Country Course on Saturday morning.
The No. 27 Ole Miss men's late-season momentum resulted in a 25th place team finish in the championship 10K at 593 points, finishing ahead of higher-ranked schools like No. 19 Eastern Kentucky (29th, 698), No. 21 Harvard (27th, 598) and No. 25 Virginia Tech (26th, 597). This marks the eighth top-25 NCAA finish in men's program history – all consecutively since first doing so in 2016.
Leading the way for the Rebel men was senior Aiden Britt, who finished 81st in the 10K with a 37-second PR of 29:47.8. Britt played a key scoring role for the Rebels all season long – particularly as an All-Region runner last week in Tallahassee – but this was Britt's first time leading the Ole Miss pack in 2024.
All-SEC junior Evan Thornton-Sherman followed in 132nd at a PR of 30:06.5, while Britt's fellow All-Region teammates junior Toby Gillen (149th, 30:14.6) and senior Elyas Ayyoub (174th, 30:29.3) followed. Other Rebel men running in the championships on Saturday were senior Benjamin Bayless (182nd, 30:32.7, PR), senior Jack Meijer (238th, 31:35.2) and junior Gabe Scales (239th, 31:36.3, PR).
The top-25 finish caps an impressive turnaround for the Rebel men, who were in danger of missing the postseason before a key third-place finish at the SEC Championships prior to earning an auto-bid to the national meet with a runner-up finish at the NCAA South Regional.
Earlier in the morning, Ole Miss senior Loral Winn represented the Rebel women in the championship 6K, finishing 109th overall at 20:34.3 to wrap her superb cross country career. Winn ends as both a three-time All-Region and All-SEC honoree, and she owns the most sub-20 6K times in recorded Ole Miss women's history with six – including two this season.
With cross country now in the rearview, the focus turns to the 2024-25 indoor track & field season, which is slated to begin in two weeks.
