Cross Country’s Elyas Ayyoub Named SEC Men’s Newcomer of the Year

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss men's cross country senior Elyas Ayyoub has been named the SEC Men's Newcomer of the Year, as announced by the conference office in its season awards release on Tuesday.
Ayyoub – a native of Cape Town, South Africa – is in his first cross country season with the Rebels in 2024 after transferring from LIU prior to the 2024 indoor track season. Ayyoub has been a crucial member of an ascendant Rebel men's squad that earned an automatic NCAA berth following a second-place team finish at the NCAA South Regional, earning All-Region honors in seventh place at a 27-second 10K PR of 29:53.9.
At SECs, Ayyoub earned his first conference honors as a Rebel with a Second-Team All-SEC finish in 12th place at a 57-second 8K best of 23:00.6 – helping push Ole Miss to a key third-place team finish.
The No. 27 Ole Miss men, as well as All-Region women's senior Loral Winn, will run at the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championships this Saturday, Nov. 23, at the University of Wisconsin. Uninterrupted coverage on ESPNU begins at 8:30 a.m. CT, with the women's championship 6K set for 9:20 a.m. CT and the men's championship 8K scheduled for 10:10 a.m. CT.
