TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Ole Miss women's basketball team (10-12, 2-7 SEC) held the Crimson Tide to just 48 points but couldn't overcome a cold shooting night where they shot just 22.4 percent as they dropped a 48-37 contest to the Crimson Tide on Thursday at Foster Auditorium. Shandricka Sessom (Byhalia, Miss.) led the Rebels with 15 points for her sixth straight game in double figures. A'Queen Hayes (Horn Lake, Miss.) tallied a team-best seven rebounds.

Ole Miss struggled after the break shooting under 20 percent in the third and fourth quarters with just 17 points between the two quarters. Ole Miss ended the game going 13-of-58 from the floor, for 22.4 percent for the game. The Ole Miss defense was a bright spot as they held Alabama to under 50 points and forced 20 turnovers scoring 16 points off the Crimson Tide miscues.

With the score tied at 20-20 heading into the third quarter, the game and scored see-sawed back-and- forth for the majority of the third before the home team used a 5-0 spurt to take a 30-25 lead just before the third quarter media timeout with 3:41 remaining in the third. The home team would use a 15-3 run to take a 38-27 lead at the end of the quarter - the largest lead by either team all night.

Alabama jumped out to 1 14-5 lead at the first media timeout as the Rebels shot just 22.2 percent to open the game with Sessom scoring all of Ole Miss points in the first five minutes of action. Alabama on the other hand came out firing on all cylinders, shooting 66.7 percent and held an early 8-1 rebounding advantage. Ole Miss dialed up the defense out of the media time out and was able to force Alabama into five turnovers and picked up buckets from Hayes and Torri Lewis (Olive Branch, Miss.) to cut the once nine point Alabama lead to six points, 15-9, at the end of the first quarter.

Ole Miss came out firing in the second quarter and opened the quarter with a 6-0 run and tied the game at 15 at the 6:45 mark courtesy of stellar play on the defensive end. Hayes, who set up the defense, was all over the Crimson players and forced them into five second quarter turnovers leading to all six of Ole Miss' points. Ole Miss took its first lead since the opening moments, 18-16, but Alabama responded and the first half ended all knotted up at 20-20. Ole Miss' defense held the home team to just five second quarter points and forced them into 13 first half turnovers.

Rebel Sidelines

-Today's game is the 56th meeting between Alabama and Ole Miss. The Rebels lead the all-time series 34-22.

-Ole Miss will play three of its next four games on the road at stretch that began with today's game.

-Shandricka Sessom extended her double-figure scoring streak to six straight games with 15 points. Sessom has reached double figures in 20 of Ole Miss' 22 games this season

-For the first time this season, Ole Miss went into halftime tied. Ole Miss is 9-2 when leading at the break and 1-9 with they are trailing.

-Torri Lewis nailed a triple for the fourth straight game and for the sixth time in the last seven games.

-Ole Miss' 37 points are the second fewest points ever scored in a game.
