The Ole Miss women's golf team heads to South Carolina for the second time this season, this time to close its 2016 fall schedule at the Palmetto Intercollegiate at Kiawah Island.

The Rebels are coming off their best single-round and tournament score of the year after shooting a 285 in Round 3 to finish seventh at 877 at the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate in Denver. They carried that momentum into practice, going 8-under as a team during the last of their four qualifying rounds for the week.

"It has been a good week of practice," said head coach Kory Henkes. "The qualifying scores have been the best the best they've been all year, so we're excited about this week and the opportunity to play one last time this fall."

In the competitive qualifying session, junior Katy Harris rose to the top of the team's charts, shooting 4-under (68) on the final day. Harris, who joined the Rebels last spring after transferring from Mercer, has been one of two key newcomers on the roster, along with freshman Pi-Lillebi Hermansson.

While the two new additions are both hitting their strides, everyone else around them is following suit. The Rebels have been working incredibly hard to sharpen up their short game going into Kiawah, and they hope to see it pay dividends this weekend.

"All of the hard work and all of the practice we've been putting in is starting to show off," Harris said. "I can play this year and we have Pi this year, it's really brought our team to a new level. We have a really solid team."

The first round begins Sunday at 7:30 a.m. CT, with the players teeing off from the first and 10th holes.

About the Course
Ole Miss will be one of 20 teams to descend upon Turtle Point Golf Course this weekend.

Three holes, the 14th, 15th and 16th, play directly along the Atlantic Ocean, and will provide a mental and physical challenge for the Rebels. Elsewhere on the Jack Nicklaus-designed course, narrow tree-lined holes make accuracy and preparation crucial.

"It throws a lot at you," Henkes said. "it's tree-lined, there are water hazards, out of bounds, it's kind of tight. There are three or four holes that just go right along the ocean, so you're going to get some breeze coming in. It really makes you think. You can't just stand up on the tee and hit it. You've got to have a game plan and know what club you're going to hit before each and every shot out there."

The flat, coastal South Carolina landscape will be a major change from the team's last outing in Colorado, but the Rebels feel ready for the what's coming their way this weekend.

"I feel really confident," said Harris, a native of St. Simmons Island, Georgia. "It's a course pretty close to home, so it's more of a layout I'm used to rather than here. I haven't played it, but I have friends who have, and my dad has played it, so I've gotten a lot of tips, and I think it sets up well for my game. Trying to figure out the speed and the greens when we get up there will be key."
