Recap

Ole Miss vs SEMO
November 25, 2014

HEAD COACH Matt Insell

On the Erika Sisk play with 2 seconds left...
"She is a lot smarter than I am. I was telling her to get up the line and deny that girl Erika kind of let the girl go by her. I knew what she was doing then. She was setting that girl up. She does that a lot in practice. Sometimes I get upset and tell her not to do that, but she does it. I am just really glad to escape with a win today. I am so proud of the way the kids battled. SEMO played a lot of zone on us and we have not seen that much this year. You talk about it in practice, but you don't see it. It is hard to be real sharp at it until you really get to see it. When they were playing us in man, we had a good lead, about 12-13 points. Then they would get in the zone and really slow us down. At the end of the day, like I told the team, we are looking for W's and L's. Just to get it done. We got it done today and it was just an incredible effort by the team to come back and do so. I am a very happy coach for them today."

On how to work on the 2-3 zone...
"We usually have a 2-3 zone work in practice. SEMO had not played any zone this year. Then, they come out here and play about 90% in the zone. So, we do not have that package in against the zone yet. Last year we had the same issue a little bit early on. Then, we found some things to run against the zone and we got good at it. So, we will go back and watch this tape and get together as a coaching staff. We are going to get ready for Utah. Utah is watching tapes and they will play us in zone. We are going to get better as a team at that."

On the final seconds...
"I was just hoping it was our ball. Erika Sisk told me it was our ball. When she did that I knew she was right. I did not want to call a timeout. We had a few timeouts and we had a little bit of time there. We had practiced that play a lot, not thinking that it would happen with one second on the clock. Everyone thinks when we get in that situation we are going to throw a lob to Tia Faleru, so we had a few different options there. A'Queen Hayes did a great job. I have been on her. She found a way, and she found an open person. She always performs well under pressure."

On today's win...
"It was a great win. I have never had a bad win. Every win is a great win. I am really happy about getting this win. These types of game are what this team needs. We are young. We have eight of them out there, and there are three or four new ones out there. I just keep telling them that. They are five games into a season of college basketball. A year ago they were winning by 40 in high school games. There are going to be days we have struggles. There are going to be days we win games we shouldn't have and lose games we shouldn't have. That is the way this season is going to go."

On playing Utah...
"We are ready for Reno, Nev. We have a tough test against Utah. We have had a tough stretch. There is so much going through their minds. But, we are excited to be hitting the road tomorrow. We have a tough Utah team to play in the first game. They are a PAC-12 team. It will be a big win we need to get over a good team. It was about this time last year our team started to come together. I am thinking the same thing might happen for this team."
