Ole Miss vs Grambling St.
November 14, 2014
HEAD COACH Matt Insell
On the differences between the first and second half…
"We got into a lot of foul trouble. We had to play a lot of different combinations. That is part of it. We were reaching too much. We have not done that. We have not done much of that in a scrimmage or an exhibition game. That concerns me with this team because we are athletic. They can put their head down and get to the basket. I told them they must be disciplined, they have to find a stance and guard the ball. We did an okay job of that early on. The second half we seemed to do a little bit better. I am happy with the way we came out in the second half and performed."
On this years differences …
"There is a big difference from last year. The problem is there is a lot of youth on our team. Our freshman, at times, play like freshman. I hope they got it out of their systems today. Shandricka Sessom was really uptight and nervous. Toree Thompson, Kiara Golden and Kelsey Briggs were all a little nervous too. But, it was their first college game. Hopefully they got that out of their system and will be ready for the next game. But, that is part of it. They got to play good minutes."
On offensive rebounding …
"I asked them to make that our identity last year, and I asked them to do the same thing this year. Just going to the boards. I believe they had eight offensive rebounds at the half, so I challenged them to come back out and do better. Tia Faleru played like a senior and really did a great job there. We have to get some more in there helping her on the boards. But, that was a good showing for their first day out there with a very young team. We have a lot of newcomers."
On today's kids game…
"The kids were loud. They were having a lot of fun. It was a blast for those kids and we really enjoyed it. Our players enjoy this. I know it is a lot of fun for these kids to be able to get in here and see this. Hopefully some of their parents will take them back to see more games."
