OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss has signed Megan Johnson from Lexington, Ky., to a national letter of intent to play golf for the Lady Rebels in 2005-06, head coach Meghan Bolger announced Tuesday.
Johnson is the Lady Rebels' fourth signee in the class that will be eligible to compete in 2005-06. Dori Carter from Valdosta, Ga., J.J. Flynn from Mt. Zion, Ill., and Rachel Ingram from Jonesborough, Tenn. signed in November. Ole Miss competed with just six players on its roster this season and will lose seniors Nikki Hadd and Lisha Beyer to graduation.
"We are happy to get a player like Megan. She is an extremely motivated young player who will work really hard for us and bring more to our team," Bolger said.
Johnson is still competing as a senior at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Lexington, but has already racked up numerous achievements and honors.
She won the Fayette County High School Championship in both her sophomore and junior seasons (2003 and 2004). As a junior, Johnson placed fourth at her regional championship and tied for 11th in the Kentucky High School State Championship. She also shot a 76 to place second in the 2004 KHSAA Regional Championship.
The two-time Lexington City junior champion finished fifth in the Kentucky junior competition.
Johnson is a two-time MVP and team captain of the Dunbar High varsity golf team. She has also participated in FCA and the German Club. She is a member of the Women's Kentucky State Golf Association and recipient of the Dorothy Waters Junior Golf Award.
Megan is the daughter of Mike and Paula Johnson. Her sister, Katie, is a sophomore on the golf team at the University of Kentucky.
