OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss head women's golf coach Meghan Bolger has recommended the hiring of Kelly Anders for the position of assistant coach, effective January 1. The appointment is pending approval of the Board of Trustees, State Institutions of Higher Learning.
"Kelly has great knowledge of the Southeastern Conference and knows what it takes to be successful at this level," Bolger said. "The SEC is a great family to be part of and I know Kelly is excited about the opportunity to coach in this league.
"Kelly will handle a wide variety of responsibilities for us. She will work closely with our team at practice and on the road at tournaments. She will also assist with recruiting and a variety of administrative duties leading up to the SEC Championships in April. Kelly will bring a lot to the table and we are looking forward to having her as part of the Lady Rebel golf program."
A native of Springfield, Ill., Anders comes to Ole Miss after earning four letters at Kentucky (2000-03). During her senior campaign, Anders tied for second at the Lady Kat Invitational (72-73--145) and fourth at the Franklin Street Trust Tar Heel Invitational (73-75-71--219). Her low round -- a 68 -- came at the 2002 Chrysler ACC/SEC Challenge and tied the existing tournament record.
After wrapping up a collegiate career that included 12 top-25 finishes, Anders worked with the UK women's golf program as a recruiting intern (fall of 2003) and volunteer assistant coach (fall of 2004).
"I am really excited about this opportunity because the SEC is one of the best conferences in the country," Anders said. "I had a wonderful student-athlete experience at Kentucky and now I'm really looking forward to coaching at Ole Miss. I've heard nothing but good things about the school and its athletic program. From what I can tell, the people of Oxford really support their local teams. Ole Miss has a gorgeous campus and great athletic facilities.
"I have known Meghan (Bolger) for a while now. I have competed against her at several amateur tournaments and have followed her program at Ole Miss. She is an outstanding player and a terrific coach. I have a lot of respect her and think she will be a great mentor for me."
Anders graduated from Kentucky in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in communications.
