LUFKIN, Texas -- Andrew Medley, a rising junior on the Ole Miss golf team, shot a 75-74-74-70--293, to finish in the 13th spot at the 95th Southern Amateur over the weekend. The tournament was played at the Crown Colony Country Club in Lufkin, Texas.
Medley, a native of Jackson, Miss., claimed the Eastern Amateur title on July 15, with a 66-65-74-68--273 at the Elizabeth Manor Golf and Country Club in Portsmouth, Va. The win propelled Medley up from 280 to a tie for 71 in the Golfweek/Titleist Men's Amateur Rankings.
"This is a tremendous accomplishment for Andrew," Ole Miss head coach Woody Cowart said. "I hope this takes him to the next level with his play. The confidence he gained by winning the Eastern Amateur, and his solid performance in the Southern Amateur, will hopefully carry over to his collegiate play."
Medley notched two top-10 finishes this past season for the Rebels. He finished ninth in both the Ping-Arizona Intercollegiate and the Adam's Cup of Newport.
