OXFORD, Miss.-- Coming off a fourth place finish at the Gator Invitational last weekend, the Ole Miss men's golf team is preparing for the Beau Chene Collegiate on Monday and Tuesday, in Mandeville, La.
At the Gator Invitational, the Rebels fired a 276-272-284--832 for a fourth place finish. The second round score of 272 breaks the school record for lowest round. The previous mark was 274, set at the Mississippi Intercollegiate in 1982. The Rebels' three-round score of 832 ranks second best in school history. The school mark is held by the 1982-83 Rebel golf team, who fired a 828 at the 1982 Mississippi Intercollegiate.
Troy Muller, a senior from Braithwaite, La., fired a 66-66-71--203 at the Gator Invitational, which was good for fourth place in the tournament. His score of 203 ties the school record for lowest three-round score in a tournament. He shares the mark with current Rebel assistant coach Haymes Snedeker (1996-99), Dave Pegge (1982-85), and Randy Watkins (1980-83).
J.J. Thompson, a junior college transfer from Minot, N.D., fired a third round score of 65 to tie for fourth best in school history. He ties the mark set by Dave Pegge (1992-85) and Lane Pippin (1997-98).
Participating for the Rebels at the Beau Chene Collegiate will be Muller, Thompson, Andrew Medley, Tommy Clement, and Brendan Fisher.
Following the Beau Chen Collegiate, the Rebels will be back in action on March 5-6, when they travel to Lakeland, Fla., to play in the Matlock Collegiate, host by Florida Southern.
