Rebel Golfers Earn Postseason Honors
8/9/2000 | Men's Golf
OXFORD, Miss. - Following a season that saw the Ole Miss men's golf team make its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance, a pair of Rebels earned specific merit by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Jon Bartlett was selected as an All-America honorable mention, while Phil Caravia was named Scholastic All-America.
A member of the 2000 All-SEC first team, Bartlett is the seventh player in school history to earn All-America honors and the first in five years. The Ocala, Fla. native finished 24th at last year's NCAA Championships, and ended the year with the third lowest single-season stroke average (71.77) ever by a Rebel golfer.
Caravia becomes the second Ole Miss golfer to take academic All-America honors, with Haymes Snedeker accepting the accolade in 1999. A senior managerial finance major, Caravia was also named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll for the third time. The Belleville, Ill. native picked up a pair of top 20 finishes last season, while posting the team's fifth best stroke average.
